I just moved to Alabama and want to adopt. I am married, however we are seperated (not legally) and he resides in another state. Can I adopt on my own or will I have a problem with the homestudy???

HI! Glad to have you in our state. I believe that single parent adoptions are often done here. I have a friend, who is single, and she is in the process of adopting a sibling group of 4. We are adopting a 12 yr old, who has been in our home (foster care)for almost 3 years. In fact the finalization hearing is this Wednesday, 5/21. The process can be lengthy. You have to complete the GPS classes, jump through several hoops. I personally believe that the best way to adopt is first to foster. The process has helped us immensely!!
