is credit "per adoption" or "per child adopted"?

I believe I understand the "usual" uses for the new adoption tax credit, but depending on the place I look, they either say "per adoption" or "per child". Our situation is that we will be adopting a sibling group--which is one ADOPTION but 2 or more CHILDREN. My assumption would mean this would allow us to take one $10,000 credit (sib groups are considered special needs).

But a few places make it sound like we could take the credit for each child involved in that adoption. I don't think that is true, but thought I'd check with people who might know. Anyone?

Tax Credit per child

Diane,

The tax credit of $10,000 is per child. It is confusing and not stated very clearly in most places but I did find a tax website that gave a specific example and I've also spoken with our adoption attorney.

It is per child. Even though you are adopting a sibling group, and the adoptions are done at the same time, it is more then one adoption. Each child has his or her own adoption, even when it is on one decree.

per child - each of their adoptions is a separate thing.

How funny! This question was mine, I posted it 6 years ago! I've learned a lot since then.

I wonder how old the oldest resurrected thread ever was? Hmmm...
