I've only studied the rules on this as far as it applies to my situation. I don't really know much other than how it affects me and my family. However, I know a couple of other couples that are trying to figure all of this out as well and I know that there are a lot of questions out there. Like I said, I'm certainly not an expert by any means, but I do have some background in income taxes and understand in general how the IRS and income taxes operate. I just want to help steer some lost souls in the right general direction!

Does the tax credit apply to a stepparent adoption, too? Current hubby is adopting my girls from a previous marriage. We started the process in 2001 and incurred some of the expenses then. The adoption will be final next week. Can we take the credit for the monies spent in 2001 and this year on our next return? Our total expense will be about $4,000...will we get credit for the full amount? This has been a confusing issue for me, and any info you can provide will be much appreciated! You are so wonderful to help out so many on this site! Thank you!
