I noticed they don't give a length of time they will take to go over the information. Was there actually a person's name on the top of the letter? Just wondering if you have an examiner yet. We are still waiting for that first letter..........UGHHHH! |

Well how interesting, ha ha ha ha. Well I hope you get an examiner fast and process goes quickly. I just wish we would get through our 2 letters and at least then I can just "sit and wait" without the anxiety of "when will I get my letters!" This is killing me!

Well, I, apparently I did not follow instructions because i did not mail the paperwork back in their tiny business envelope. I will be making yet, another run, to the United States Post Office because I failed to do the following on the overnight mail envelope:
It's important that you reply by mail or by fax within 30 days from the date of this letter. If you reply by mail, please use the enclosed envelope or address your reply envelope to the Internal Revenue Service at the address shown in the heading of this letter. Whether responding by mail or fax, please be sure to identify the contact person whose name is shown in the heading of this letter, and please include a copy of this letter. I will be using the address in the heading of the letter tomorrow, not the address they provided on their envelope, which IRS provided as a courtesy. This would be my fault, not IRS'. I have to get this right. lol |

You should actually call them first because I called and said my Docs would not fit in that envelope and they said you don't really need to use the envelope they sent. Who knows if the person who told me that knew what they were talking about lol...Just call and check |

Thanks. When I started reading this thread in the beginning of March, I got a bit worried and thought I would get the run around as well. I then made it a point to get our taxes done and submitted. Didn't know if we would end up in review so the faster I got it done, I was hoping the faster I would go through the review process. In the end, I didn't even go through the review process. I'm wondering if it is because my taxes are quite simple. All we had were pretty much just my work income and interest/dividends earned, property taxes and charitable contributions. No special self employment tax and/or business taxes. Pretty much plain jane taxes. About the only thing I can think of that may have made it a bit more complicated was the carry-over from last year (2009) when we adopted our daughter. Once again, I'm relieved that 2010 taxes are done and over for me. Hope everyone will soon get their refunds as well. |

Found this tonight and thought it might help for those hoping to receive a hardship help from the IRS (To get the money back sooner).
If you are suffering, or about to suffer a significant hardship because of the way Internal Revenue laws are being carried out, you may ask for help from IRS's Problem Resolution Office of the Taxpayer Advocate's Office. The Taxpayer Advocate may issue a Taxpayer Assistance Order to suspend, delay, stop, or speed-up IRS actions when a person is suffering or about to suffer a significant hardship. A significant hardship is something more than an inconvenience to you. IRS enforcement action, such as a levy on wages or a bank account, or the seizure of property, is NOT itself a significant hardship. Examples of significant hardship include the loss of housing, the shut-off of utilities, and being unable to obtain food, keep your job, or buy needed medication. Hardship refers to the way the law is applied to you and not to the law itself. Problem Resolution Officers do not have the authority to overrule the tax law. You should first try to resolve tax problems with the IRS office that most recently contacted you. But, if an IRS action or inaction will cause you a significant hardship, you may apply for help in one of two ways. First, you may call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040, and ask that a Form 911, Application for Taxpayer Assistance Order to Relieve Hardship, be prepared for you. Secondly, you may complete Form 911 yourself and send it to the Problem Resolution Officer for the IRS district in which you live. You may order Form 911 from your local IRS office or order by calling 1-800-829-3676. The Problem Resolution Officer will review your completed application and advise you of the action taken. |

Yep, now you resend your documents and then it's like 45 days from when they receive them. This is the stage most people are in right now. |
