The first person I talked to told me to go on and send verification of those things. So I sent with my fax all the adoption stuff. Her old and new birth certificates, and a copy of her old ssn info I received with an explanation. I also sent receipts showing I make the house payments and pay utilities, but I don't think that was quite necessary.

When I called, they said they could have fixed it from my call, but because it was selected for Examination, they could do nothing since it was frozen.

On a side note: Now that my tax nightmare is over, I went and had her ssn changed. Yes, I had to go to two offices because the first one only wanted to change her name, but there are four in the KC area, so I kept going!
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, that helped!!

Called again today and got Mr. Brooks who was very nice and in Massachutes. He stated he has been employeed with the IRS for over 20yrs and he had no idea what the 0922 number or caller id number was even though he wished he did so we didnt have to call in and talk with a real person everytime. (I have not gotten a letter with an id #) My case still has not been reviewed and he stated that because of the large volume they have gotten they are not able to get cases reviewed in the 60 days that "the book" states it should be done. He said if it closes in my favor they will automatically release any money thats been held and I would get a letter and the money in a couple weeks. He said if there is something that is needed they will call and if they cant get a response by phone they will mail a letter requesting additional info. He again did say that they are not aware of anything that goes on in any of the other locations. My whole case file was received in Austin on 03/29/11 I sent all of it as I was told the more info the better. Anyone else in Austin that has been reviewed yet? My friend's was sent to Missouri and they recieved hers April 4th and hers has been done already.

Unhappy Not feeling great

Paper check should arrive in the next two days. Why am I having a hard time believing it? Feeling pretty bummy today. Kind of stressed and sick to my tum. DD is definately the less painful option. This really stinks! Actually afraid to make plans or count on it...

Did you select direct deposit? I am curious as my TA said it was really weird but some people who had all their DD information on their returns are getting paper returns and others that did not input DD information the IRS is using last year's tax return if it had DD information and sending it DD. So she told me I should be getting mine either tomorrow or next week because the IRS is issuing money in such strange ways she doesn't know whether it is going out as DD or check but she sees the funds released.

??? Money coming????

I've been trying to read through this thread but wondering if anyone else is at this step?

We sent in our taxes requesting the ATC in mid February. We received the various letters that I think most (all?) got...they reviewed everything and then asked for receipts. We mailed and faxed our receipts and just last week got a the notice that they they reviewed our refund and that they were releasing our refund minus $33. I wasn't going to fight them about $33 (miscalculation on my part, they say) and so was very happy.

Well then as I got to the very last page of the info they sent it said "we have disallowed your adoption refund". We're like, huh?? So I call the IRS, am on hold for what feels like all day and finally talk to a lady who assures me that the "disallow" part means they have disallowed the $33 and we'll be getting the rest of it (which is what the first page says, but not the last). I believe her, we sign the paper agreeing to accept the $13,000-some dollars minus $33. Mailed it in. They said we should recieve our money within 8 weeks. My questions:

- Anyone else at this step? Is it really taking a full 8 weeks for the money to come?

- We marked "direct deposit" and got our regular refund came DD but I'm wondering if this will or will come by check?

- My "Where's My Refund" page stills says the "We have received your tax return and it is being reviewed. You will receive a notice from us requesting additional information from you" - the same it has for the past couple months. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help you can give!

I understand they want to review for the huge refunds, what I don't understand is how my adoption credits are rollovers, there was never any question before about their special needs status or the adoption credits, but now I am here waiting 117 days later..... it just seems like if you already had the credits before for special needs and you are just getting back the rollover amount, there should be a fairly clear outcome. And a heck of a lot faster than this.

I am at this step. I should be receiving my letter in the next day or two saying they have disallowed $13XX from my 2009 return. We are to sign it and send it back. The guy I talked to said we could fax it and they would call to verify it was our signature on the form before they release the money. He told ME that once they verify our signature, it will take about 10 days to get our DD. If you are getting DD, you will probably have your money in 2-3 weeks. Not the 8 weeks they said.

Angry Direct Deposits

My partial came dd. I called to make sure that my ATC portion would also be direct deposited. This is when it got annoying... I had one IRS agent tell me that no one who was getting the ATC would qualify for dd, because it was against Treasury rules, guidelines and laws to dd any amount over $10,000. When I told her that didn't seem to be the case, because a friend of mine was so excited to get her dd of over 40 grand, that she showed me on her computer. The agent got agitated and said, "we're not talking about your friends, we're talking bout you and we're talking about the laws that govern the Treasury!". She went on to tell me that she had worked the for 20 years and knew the laws. When I told her about this blog, she said she wouldn't discuss rumors and then basicaly said people on here were liars (yipes!). A different agent told me that mine could have been dd, but due to so much fraud they simply couldn't take my word or bank info over phone. When I pointed out that they already had my bank info and given me a partial dd, he put me on hold, came back and said sorry, but he couldn't override the system.

I had the exact same thought. I first took this credit in 2008 and have been carrying it forward. They could have caused themselves less pain by processing the carryforwards immediately. They could always go back for further review to validate. I heard that is what they are doing with some returns that were filed late. They are issuing the refunds and will go back to review in more detail later.
