In order to adopt we got a personal loan from a family member who wanted it paid back within a year. We thought that would give us enough time to figure something out-- other loans, grants, etc. That was April 2006 and we have been paying her $200 a month while we looked into things but I cannot find any loans or grants that you can apply for after the adoption. The money is due the end of this month and we still owe around $14,000. Anyone know of any? Our first daughter was adopted through an agency (at 6 mths. the birthmom called them one morning and dropped her off that evening--there wasn't a lot of time to do any planning) and the second is her biological sister whom we adopted 7 mths. later. They are both bi-racial (CC/AA). Are there any loans or grants for either AA or if you are trying to keep siblings together?

You've probably already considered this, but thought I'd mention home equity loan or a signature loan from your bank. Or possibly a loan from another family member? Have you gotten your tax return yet - what about the $10k tax credit for adoption?
