Important Legislation Affecting Adoption Tax Credit
RECEIVED THIS E-MAIL FROM OUR SOCIAL WORKER AND TRYING TO GET THE WORD OUT SO THAT WE CAN ALL CALL OUR SENATORS AND MAKE SURE THEY CONSIDER MAKING THE ADOPTION TAX CREDIT PERMANENT!
Heather On 9/23/04, the United States House of Representatives passed a bill which would make the adoption tax credit PERMANENT. The bill passed by a vote of 419-0. The bill is HR 1057 which is also known as "The Adoption Tax Relief Guarantee Act" It would repeal the 2010 sunset date of the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 with respect to the adoption credit and adoption assistance programs. HR 1057 has gone to the Senate where its fate is uncertain. The bill is being "hotlined," this week, i.e., the majority whip is doing a telephonic survey of Senate offices to see if unanimous consent can be achieved to bring the bill to a Senate vote before adjournment on October 8. If you support making the adoption tax credit PERMANENT, please call your Senators as soon as possible and urge them not to object to consideration of HR 1057. If even one Senator objects, the bill will not be voted on in the few days remaining of this Congress. You can find your state's two Senators quickly and easily at: http://www.senate.gov/ |
