MEMBER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Heartened, adoptee

Heartened is a 34-year-old adoptee born and adopted in Illinois who is still trying to decide if she wants to actively seek out her birth family. From her non-identifying information, she has learned that she was actually the youngest of 5 or 6 children born to a couple who were in the process of divorcing. As far as she knows, she was the only child placed.

She is happily married and mother to three teenagers, as well as an aunt to a wonderful 6-year-old adopted from Russia.

Heartened is a newcomer to the adoption.com forums, having only joined in December of 2005. She says that it is the conversations she has had on these forums, as well as the posts she has read from other adoptees, which gave her the courage to take a significant step in her journey towards finding out the truth of her origins.

On January 10, 2006, Heartened submitted her registration with the ISRR (International Soundex Reunion Registry) and the IARMIE (Illinois Adoption Regesitry Medical Information Exchange). She has said that while she is not ready to actively search, she is open to being found by her birth family and has a particular interest in meeting her siblings.

Heartened is blogging her experiences, feelings and inner explorations on a blog she created titled "The Adoption Void."
