MEMBER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Mckenna, foster/adopt mom

Mckenna is a single foster/adopt mom of two great children. Her son is 4 1/2 years old, and her foster/adopt daughter is 11 months old.

Mckenna joined the forums in January 2003, just after learning she would be able to adopt her foster son. His adoption was not final for almost another year. During that time, she used and has continued to use the forums to obtain and provide support. While participating on the the forums, she learned about attachment disorder, and it helped her realize her son was dealing with some attachment issues. She went on to seek treatment in her community to address the issues, which has been such a blessing to her family.

Once she felt her son was in the healing process, she decided to welcome another family member to her home and pursued a private domestic adoption. Her experience as a foster parent made her pursuit a unique experience, but in the end, her son's biological sister was placed with her through the state. She then decided to forgo her private adoption quest. She hopes for the finalization of her daughter by the end of 2006.

Mckenna values the friendships she's had the opportunity to make here on the forums and looks forward to continued support.
