MEMBER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Cheryl62, adoptee

Cheryl62 lives in Nepal with her husband and 3 of their 6 children. The other 3 are grown, going to school and living in the US. Cheryl found the forums after receiving her non-identifying information about her birth mother in April 2004. Reading the experiences of other adoptees through the forums helped her decide that she did indeed want to proceed with a search for her birthmother and even how to go about it.

In July 2004, with the help of a private investigator, her birth mother was found. Despite the fact that she was not ready to meet, Cheryl and her birth mother maintain occasional contact. Cheryl says the forums have helped her to “be more self-aware, realistic, and sensitive in handling this situation for both my birth mother and my parents.”
