Question Is there an agency rating system?

Hi:
I've tried searching this board but didn't find any posts relative to this. A few years back when I first looked into adoption, I came across a website that provided rating feedback on adoption agencies across the US. It was something similar to eopinions in that people could give a rating and then leave comments. You could look up an agency and see it's rating and read the comments. We didn't pursue adoption at that point, but we are now and I can't seem to find that site anymore or any reference to it. I saved it to my Favorites on an older computer but for some reason can't find it now. Does anyone know if such a site still exists?

Thanks!

Thumbs up Bbb

HI, My husband and I are going to go through an agency. All I did was look up the agency on the Better Business Bureau. Let me know if you found what you were looking for! Good luck!

Tiffany

Thanks, Crick. I really wasn't looking for any one specific agency at this point. I'm looking for some resource that gives a list of agencies, with some sort of quick-look rating of them (something along the lines of eopinions). Since I don't even know where to start in terms of finding a reliable agency, I was hoping I could find that site again (I'd seen it a few years back but can't seem to find it in my favorites).

Tiffany, the BBB is a good idea, although they don't always give you a real feel for what the company is really like. I will check out the BBB on any agencies I look into though.

Well, I checked out the two agencies I had come across so far on the BBB. One shows up as not a member with no history of reported problems. The other one doesn't even show up. I went looking to see if there were any agencies listed in my area that were BBB members and am not finding any so far, which is a little unnerving.

I think I found out why I haven't found the ratings website I was looking for. I've come across a few older posts from other boards referencing the site (or what sounds like the site) but apparently there was some lawsuit going on (this was in 2004) and the sites were taken down. I guess the agencies didn't like the fact that people (customers) were rating them and leaving comments. So I guess I'm back to square one.

Yes & No

The website was called "The Adoption Guide". It was run by Mary Mooney.

After a threatened lawsuit, Mary sold the URL to Adoptive Families magazine. It is no longer available on the internet. You can find archived posts if you go to:
www.archive.org and type in www.theadoptionguide.com in "the Wayback Machine".

Currently, if you are searching for an international adoption agency, there is a Yahoo! group called Adoption Agency Research.

If you wish to locate others who have used a particular international adoption agency, try the ICAR site:
