What did you do?

I've been matched w a 13 year old girl. We've had 3 day visits so far & they've gone well. She has no diagnosis, overall does well in school. What type of activities did you do during your visits? I want to do fun things to get to know each other but don't want to give the impression that life w me will always be Disney World. Also what kinds of things did you do in the beginning to foster adjustment, trust, and overall relationship building. I'm told she can be very talkative and has a good sense of humor. But I haven't really seen that side of her yet and sometimes I run out of conversation starters. I know it's uncomfortable for her, it is for me at times. She will be my first child (I'm 41). Any advise?

Congratulations!

Do you know what she likes?

Mani/Pedis? Window shopping? Sports? Library? movie following by a snack/coffee so you have time to talk about the movie?

Our DD was younger, but much of the getting to know each other time was discovering what we have in common. Adventures don't need to be costly.

Board or card games? There are so many kinds, and if you have friends with children, they may have some you could borrow.

Hi, Rishnj,

Just wondering how it's going for your match? I'm considering a 15 year old girl now and will be in the same boat soon if all goes well.

I'm transitioning with a nine year old girl and we really enjoy going to the mall (but I don't buy anything) except for maybe a snack or a drink.

Hope all is going well with your match!
