If you had the power....

If you had the power to change the foster care system how would you change it ?

How would you present these children to waiting families ?

Even thou there are good foster homes, are children better off with multipule foster homes rather than group homes, while waiting for families?

I'd stop sugar-coating the descriptions in the online listings, and keep them up to date.

I'd move the kids through the system faster, so that they can have permanent, more stable homes for more of their youth.

I'd provide more and better training, and make access to specialized therapists easier, not something that requires parents to jump through hoops.

I would abolish photolistings - one moment in time on which many people make their decisions about a particular child.

I would mandate some sort of attachment training since so many of these kids have what I consider to be a NORMAL protective response against multiple hurts

I would have everyone go through the workers who are helping us bring our 12 yo future daughter home to us from another state - they have done so very much to make this dream a reality for both us and the child, who has wanted to be adopted for the past EIGHT years
