Wacap (?) New York City AAI adoptions from newbie

Posted on another board too. We were looking at wacap (?) agency/organization and they have AAI adoption except New York. Does anyone know why? Are there agencies in New York that have this?

My lawyer won't do adoptions in ny and maryland.. maybe it's the adoption process or laws?
(BTW I don't know what wacap and aai are either.)

Juts a bit off topic...we live in MD, and before signing with our agency 2 years ago, we looked into hiring an attorney to help us adopt. We could not find an attorney that did adoptions here in MD (they may be out there - we just couldn't find one). The wait period before TPR becomes irrevocable is 30 days, so maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know.

It is my understanding, and I could be wrong, but in order to do adoptions in NY, you have to be licensed in NY and to be licensed you have to have a physical office there - something that most agencies can't/won't do.

Again, this is just my understanding of how it works...I could be totally off base.

Sbaglio, there are about 11 practicing in MD that are listed on the AAA website. We are using one and another friend of ours that lives in Riverdale is using another.

I've seen a lot of adoption situations posted on the web that have a little footnote that they won't work with New York families so I think it must be something like what you said BrandyHagz.

WOW! Thanks, Magic. We'd searched everywhere (I guess not on the AAA website...). Now I know for next time.
