Study/Article

The specific study that I was referring to was one that I read about in an article in the past 2 years. I had a bookmark to the article, the link has expired. I've tried to Google key words, and all I get is a jumble of various transracial adoption resources. If I come across it again in my travels, I'll post it here.
My thought is that the study didn't control for environment or socioeconomic status. Most of what I remember is that one sentence: Black children do as well or better when adopted into white families. This was a study on adopted children, as opposed to all children, some of whom happened to be adopted. It also mentioned that many studies (or surveys perhaps?) had suggested/established this as well.
This is separate from the study that Jensboys pointed out, which I've read about, I believe in print as part of my home study process.
I should be more careful about my use of the word "proven." One can get a study to say just about anything one wants, if one has enough money. Ultimately, black children aren't any worse off if adopted into white homes.

Child #1: Is that your mother?
Child #2: Yes.
Child #1: Why is she white and you are black?
Child #2: Because I am adopted, and black people have more melanin than white people do.
Child #1: Oh, let's go on the high bars.

rredhead, I too tried to find a study online that proved these results but could not. I understand why we as transracial parents want to know that our kids are not going to suffer from being raised by us, however, I'm sure you can understand how hurtful and demeaning it could be to hear that people of your own race could not do as good a job raising you. Saying that black kids do BETTER in CC homes is just ludicrous to me. I know that is not what you yourself are saying but what you read somewhere. Try saying that to an AA person you know. And what does that say to your kids who are black? That their children would do better with a CC family?

So while I think that CC parents can do a good job, I don't think we can do it better. And I hope no one would ever think that.

Linny......this coming from a AA, it is refreshing to see you get it. I agree, sometimes people try way too hard and think the environmental influences are/is 'culture' soooo not true and not part of my 'culture'. They are influences just like anything else. I think what you are doing/have done with your children is excellent, DIVERSITY is SO important and is key in my book.
