HELP!!! Sand in her hair!

Yesterday I filled Drihan's sandbox up and put her in it for the first time. She had a blast, but threw sand in her hair She isn't due to have her hair washed for a few more days so do I just leave it and comb through it as usual or do I wash it? The thing is, chances she is going to get more in it and i don't want to keep washing her hair everyday and dry it out. On a good note it is orange sand made by Kaleidescope(sp?) company so it looks pretty in there

Brush the sand out with a wide paddle brush.

Braiding her hair can keep sand from the middle of her hair and make it a little easier to brush it out.

If all else fails wash it with Revlon's Creme of Nature shampoo which wont dry out her hair and makes it easier to comb after washing (the hair feels smooth instead of squeaky clean which is a sign of dry hair)

good luck, we ended up ditching the sand box at home. DD does get sand in her hair constantly at school. If she'll wear a hat, I would put one on her when she goes to play in the sand.
I second the paddle/boar bristle brush -- it does get a lot of it out. DD has tons of hair though & that darn sand is my nemesis - she won't wear a hat. I don't use shampoo for dd all that often - a lot of the time, I just work in conditioner/comb carefully thru & rinse. Not as harsh as frequent shampooing.

Conditioning is definitely the way to go. Our hair can get dry VERY easily.

Even as an adult, I condition my hair every other day and wash once a week.

Rinse it out at the end of the day and put in some type of leave in conditioner. We use Paul Mitchell's conditioner for this. Had to do it yesterday for the same reason.

I would wash it out. Depending on how much sand is in her hair, you might want to try rinsing her hair after shampooing by having her lay down in the bathtub while you massage her scalp. I used to get sand in my hair as a child and I had to "soak" it out. Otherwise my hair was clean and the sand and was still on my scalp.

Conditioner

I "wash" Addy's hair with conditioner when it's not due to be washed. Do everything the same as if you were washing it, just use conditioner and comb it through. I do it when she has gotten dirt or food in her hair but it's not due to be washed yet. Good Luck!!

this is why many black families avoid the sand pile, lol, or let the kid play the day before shampoo day.

see, there you go . much easier to deal with, lol.

I'm never really concerned about dd, because she's not into throwing sand, but the other kids .

it is not so much the throwing but when they are little and digging, sometimes the shovels get away from them and sand just flys!!

As far as the boar brush, won't that rip out her hair or make it frizzy? Sorry, I have no idea

The boar bristle brush is great on our girls' hair. It isn't as rough as other brushes and is what hairstylists reccomend for AA hair.
