American Citizenship

I was born in Canada in 1971 and my adoptive parents are both Canadian Citizens. My Birth Parents are both American citizens and have never lived in Canada. I am interested in exploring the possibility of getting dual citizenship and am wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as me. Who did you contact or where can I find information about my unique (or not so unique) situation?

Thanks,
Paul

Well it depends ...

Hi there ... we too are Canadian parents of sons adopted from the States. Alot depends on where you adoption was completed ... wether or not you have your original birth certificate. If you do you are automatically an american citizen already - even if it is an amended birth certificate from the states. I guess what I am saying is were you born in the states? If not ... I am sorry you are out of luck - if you were born in the states you will be automatically a US citizen -- just apply for a SSN - unless your citizenship was revoked by your aparents. If your bparents are US citizens but you were born in Canada you are out of luck, unless they applied for your citizenship before your adoption. Remember you have no "legal" connection to them so they cant sponsor you. If they are serious about it ... you might try the consolate in Vancouver ... good luck.
