Exclamation stepchild adoption laws in florida

Does florida require you to be married for me to adopt my fiance's daughter.We are trying to do this before we get married.Do we need to have consent of the father who is no never around and has seen his daughter maybe 4 times since see was born. she 3yrs old and we want to do this before she gets to old. she has know me to be her father ever since she was little and has always called me daddy. we plan on telling her when she is old enough to understand what is going on.it is very complicated. any info would help. thank you

Hi

you will need an attorney for the process, so I would go ahead and get one now - they will advise if you can start the process before getting married or not and whether termination of her bio father's rights need to be done.

there are attorneys who specialize in adoption and family law, I would definitely use one who specializes

Here is the thing the person on the birth certificate really is not her father he just made her stick his name on it so she would have his last name because they were together at the time and now he is in prison on 03/2010. but the real father is no where 2 be found.

Since there is a father listed on OBC, I do believe you are still going to have his parental rights terminated regardless

I still would contact an adoption attorney - this is not something you want to mess up on
