I think I have by this lady who said she would help me through the search/reunion process. We talked a few times and I got the feeling she was fake. She came across as being very sweet and kind online. However on the phone she seemed harsh. I don't see her on the boards anymore so she must have found what she was looking for and left. It's very sad that people take advantage of others who are so vulnerable but I know it happens a lot.

Yup, its why we have warnings ALL over the place.

Also, if anyone contacts you wanting to charge you a fee for service, they are violating our rules by doing so - that'd doesn't seem like ethical business practices...at all!

Scammed? I don't even know where to begin, lol. I'm an adoptee and a b-mom, and I've been searching for both my daughter and my mom for a few years now. Last January, an A-dad sees my posts, and leads a girl to believe I'm her mother. We connect and get really close, only to find out in October that he had lied about everything--her b-date, place of birth, everything. Unfortunately, he passed away in Sept so we'll never know why he did it.
In March of 2006, I find some one who claims to be my mom. I'll admit, I was stupid. I asked alot of questions, but I was dumb enough to phrase them in a yes/no style, so it was easy for her to guess. Or I'd say, blah blah blah, right? And she'd say yes. So any way, I spent a couple of months chatting on line with her, and "siblings", but they'd NEVER talk on the phone. I know, it should have been my first clue. Now they've disappeared completely, so I assume they weren't a real match, and I say good riddance.
While the whole experience has made me more cautious, it has also made me more skeptical. Now I don't trust anybody.
It doesn't mean I'm not searching and hoping, I'm just doing it with my eyes wide open.

Awww Amy, I am so sorry that those things happened to you. I just don't understand why people would do that to a person. Sending hugs your way .

I do have to tell you something though. I love what you wrote in your siggy. That is so funny, but very true.

It is really sad that unscrupulous people take advantage of our emotions. But there are so many wonderful people who really do want to help and be supportive!
Please don't give up just because of a few bad apples. There really are angels out there who mean what they say and are for "real".

Amy,that's awful what happened to you. People can be so mean.
I made some mistakes when it comes to trusting people and wasn't thinking straight. Well the problem is that I was thinking with my heart and emotions instead of my head. yeah but I'm wiser now and I bet you are too.

Hey guys,
Thanx for the hugs, I need them, especially this week! My daughter's 21st b-day is Tuesday, and I'm hoping that this is the year she comes searching. Luckily, though, I may not have to wait too long. Wyoming approved my case to be opened by a CI, and I'm sending her the forms tomorrow. This way, if she finds my daughter, I'll KNOW she's a match, and whether or not she wants contact.
