Jane, were you born in a large metro area? You might check thru the Polk directories around the year of your birth for her name. I too just had my bmom's name but found her listed in the '65 edition in the city of my birth. You might also try and request your hospital birth records, as they can yield some good information for you to go on. You should also do a marriage license search as some states, like Texas, have them online.

Hi, I am a recently reunited adoptee and thought I'd pass on the link that was a great help to me during my search. It is a registry that has search angels to help for free. http://www.aci.net/schaefer/page60.html
I hope this helps. As far as the link you posted, I am sorry, haven't heard of them. GOOD LUCK!! |

Moto, I was wondering the same thing! I did a search and the Polk directories are basically lists of people. I'm thinking it's like a phone book but maybe with more info. I think it is also used for companies that are looking for mass area mailing addresses. Looks like it is for sure nation wide dating back to the 1800's. Not sure if it goes outside the US. There is a fee to use the site.

I live in Ontario, Canada. If you want to send me a private message, I could check a few area codes, etc. I'm not a search angel ... but I've done a bit of searching for my own info.

Moto, a Polk directory is much like a phone book but with much more information in addition to an address, such as place of employment, name of spouse, and if they rented of owned the residence; almost like a mini census. Polks also have a nifty cross reference section where you can look by address only to find who was living there. Most fair to large cities have Polk Directories for each year, some going back to the 1920s, and they are usually located in the reference section at the main library. I was pleasently surprised to find out that the town of Enid, Oklahoma, with a population of about 20,000, has Polk Directories. I'd expect Polk directores (or their Canadian equivelent) to be available there for you to search for your bfamily.
