I looked

Hey I looked when I had the chance!!!

My bdad passed away over 15 years ago so that's a very complicated door for me to try and open in order to make further contact. But I did find an picture of my 1/2 sister online, and that meant a lot for me to see her. After all, I may never even meet her, but just knowing......

Look

I would definately look if I were in your position. I have to admit I did some research on my birthfamily while I was waiting for a reply to my first letter. I ended up finding my grandfather online because he is a state representative. Crazy. I did feel funny at first but then I realized, like everyone else has said. Its on the web and I want to know about my family. So dont feel bad. Its ok. If you want to see him, look. I would. Take care and I'll check back. Best of luck.

I looked

I looked at the picture yesterday.

I have to say I am a bit disappointed. I thought I would look more like him.

This is the first time I have seen a picture of someone genetically related to me and I guess I had high expectations. I thought he would look like me, rather the male version of me. The picture is in an article announcing his completion of basic training for the Air Force. He is in his uniform with a hat on and his hair is buzzed and no smile and it is a small picture. I guess I just can’t get a good idea of what he looks like. I am not upset and I am quite grateful that my friend found it, I just have a lot of mixed feelings to process yet.

I'm happy you looked!
I'm sad you don't look more alike. Keep in mind that is an awful picture! I have one of myself. I look like a serial killer!! ROFL!

The first pic I saw of my bdad he was in his navy uniform, also. Buzzed head and sailors hat on....so you can't really see many similarities.... but remember the military wants them to all look the same! you've got to see many pictures of people to really know what they look like. Seeing my bdad and I in person, side by side, we look so alike...but not in photos.

i'm sure you have similarities in person....facial expressions, laughter, smile...all the good stuff!

You're right Cherilynn, my heart was about to pound out of my chest. I got this huge adrenalin rush, and then I cried for about 30 seconds. I have now been all over the web trying to find another picture.

One of the reasons I waited to look at it was because I thought I would then want to rush out and show every one I know what I have found. I still this is D’s story to tell me. She should be the one to tell me about her son. I have a small feeling of guilt, like I just peeked at a Christmas gift I may never get to open…

I am still processing all of these new emotions. It’s like every time I get the smallest news It turns my world upside down and it takes me another week to get back on track. I have been told all of my life that I would be able to look for her; it never dawned on me that it could take so long to get things going with her.

Noodles, after I found my bmom she sent me a package of pictures of her, my 1/2 sister and 1/2 brother, my grandmother, great-aunt and great-grandmother. My first reaction to seeing the pictures was of great disappointment because I didn't think I looked like any of them. I then had this feeling of alienation and thought, "who are these people?". I have since met my mom, siblings and gma. In my case, the pictures did not tell the story. I look very much like my bmom and share many characteristics with her and my brother and sister. My great-Aunt, who I have only spoken to on the phone, says I sound just like my sister! And our hands are identical and very small! Each time I recognize or hear about some similarity, it lifts me up off the ground...but it took more than those pictures to see them. I hope you have an opportunity to meet some birthfamily members so you can really look into that genetic mirror and judge for yourself. I don't think you should feel guilty. It's perfectly natural for you to want this...and you have every right to have it.

Oh how cool to actually see a picture of your bdad!!
I can remember when the envelope arrived with a page out of my bmom's high school yearbook. I knew right away which one was my mom! I really do look a lot like her. But there are some other photos that I too would have thought "Did I find the right person"? If I look at my own photos over the years I look different in a lot of them depending on how old I was, the lighting, if they were an extremely bad photo.

I am soo excited for you!

Hugs

hey noodles
I'm happy you find news a bit at a time, so you can process it. I would do better that way
but impatience to know everything and everyone would get to me as well.

HUGS!
