Info on closed adoption agencies?

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, so I hope I'm putting this in an appropriate area.

I'm told that the agency handling my adoption was the North Shore Adoption Agency in Rochester, NY. So far, I'm not finding any information on such a place. Does anyone know of any web resources that might have some kind of historical database on agencies that no longer exist? I don't want to put the agency into any registries until I know the name of the agency for sure. I'd like to find the address also.

Thanks for any help in advance, or at least for reading my post!

Sincerely,

This came up earlier today . I'll attempt to find the info. Check this thread... Scarlet (a member) said she used the state DSS office (Dept social services). Also another member, you could PM that person and see if they have something in the book listed for NY.

Good luck

Thanks Michelle

Thanks Michelle.

Being a computer geek, I like to do stuff online, but this sounds like it's going to require sneaker-net (some old-time geeks will get it).

I'll start checking around the county courhouse and break out the phone books tomorrow.

Found it!

It was most likely North Haven Adoption Agency which was made part of Hillside! The Lawyer who told me about it (a Lawyer who specializes in Adoption, and has an adopted son) also gave me a great point of contact at Hillside.

Unfortunately, she can't do anything for me until the request gets to her from the State Registry which will probably be several more weeks.

I had this fantasy of being able to make a phone call, walk into some government or agency office, and walking out with a piece of paper of some kind telling me some new scrap of information. It just doesn't seem like it works that way.

Thanks for the help!
