Unhappy searching for birth certificate?

Hi I was adopted in 1983 and am now 28 yrs old. I was born over seas to an American serviceman and Korean mother. My mother divorced my dad and her and I moved to New York City at age 5. At 8 years old for reasons I do not know I was adopted by a family from Buffalo , NY. My named had been officially changed on my birth certificate and my question is would my birth certificate be held by the vital records dept. in Buffalo? or would I get this through the adoption courts. My full name was OFFICiALLY changed on my birth certificate when adopted by my Buffalo family. Does the state you are adopted in hold your birth certificates??... Please help... thank you

Hi my name is Jen. Here is what I did when I went looking for my original birth certificate. I called the hospital that I was born at. I then told them that I was trying to retrieve my birth records and all medical records from time frame a to time frame b or in other words from this date to this date. I never mentioned that I was adopted. I have read in many books that you should not mention the fact that you are adopted. This will just deter them from sending you the papers and information that you are requesting. Just call and tell the particular place that you are calling that you are what ever person you'r original birth names was and sometimes you can get lucky and they will send it to you. I worked for me. I called the hospital and say I was what ever my birth name was that was listed on my lbirth certificate and told them my home address and that they should send it to me address with my married name and there was no problem nor where there any questions.
