Lightbulb Have You Started A Group?

I am very interested in hearng from anyone who has started or is involved in a local adoptee support group. I would very much like to connect with other adoptees and relate our experiences. If you are in a group, or ever attended a group drop me a line, I would love to hear about it! Thanks Nencie

HI Nencie,

I was going to respond to your other thread, in searching for a support group, but I didn’t figure you'd care to have any info I have

But, since you've posted this, I’ll respond!

I am in the very beginning stages of starting a local support group for adoptees in Dekalb County Illinois. I’ve done a lot of research, and even contacted the local adoptive parents support coordinator to confirm that no such support group exists in the area, and that there is a need.

I’m hoping to start the “group” in the late spring…the reason I am waiting is because we’re moving, and we don’t currently live in Dekalb.

I’d love to “partner up” with you and maybe share some resources, information and ideas!

If you want to talk, feel free to email me BrandyHagz@Comcast.net

Brandy I think that's great what you're doing. I've looked up resources here where I live (on Maui), and find that there are no support groups for us to go to on island. I have to call Oahu and talk to someone over the phone (my pay), but to physically attend a group I think would have helped tremendously in this journey.

They suggested I start one up when I get over the hump. Thinking I was the *only one* on island is probably ridiculous and that there must be some others that need this help too. It's terrible that its so limited when you really need it.

I found lots of attorney's and some therapists, but no groups. I know you will gain much more than a wealth of information in what you are doing.

hope this might be helpful.....

I attend C.U.B. (concerned united birthparents) even tho I am an adoptee. "live" support has helped me sooo more than online chats or message boards! You have to verbalize what is on your mind- and saying it out loud to a group of others somehow validates it so much more than just typing it. You can't hide behind the puter screen with what your feeling at live support.

I have my OBC!! pfffffffft!
I missed her, I missed my siblings, I missed the connection, the identity, the ethnic background, the medical history..... I lost something very important in my life for 40 plus years. I am thankful to finally have all that back

Talking Thanks for the support!

Thanks so much for responding to my post! Any support or ideas would be helpful. I would love to have some face to face contact with others who have been impacted by adoption. E-mail and chats are great, these forums are awsome. But nothing can replace human contact!

mahalo mm125 I did in fact get in touch with Adoptions Circle of Hawaii and spoke to them in length. They were very helpful unfortunately I live on Maui and would have liked a group session here, and there is none.
