Now Have Broken Ties with Adoptive Parents
Broken Adoptive Ties
I am a 36 year old female separated from my birth parents at the age of 5, spent two years in foster care and was adopted at the age of 7 and moved to a different state than where I was born. At the age of 16, one of my birth siblings was able to find out where I was living and made attempts to contact me through my adoptive parents. My adoptive parents were very angered and upset and refused her any contact with me. Not wanting to give up, she was able to contact me at the school I was attending; leaving a message for me to contact her by calling her collect, which I did, not really realizing who this person was I was calling. After realizing who this person was I was a bag of emotions. Never-the-less I talked with her frequently by telephone (without telling my adoptive parents) and eventually a meeting was arranged at the school. When my adoptive parents did find out about it, all H--- broke loose and I ended up running away from home etc., etc. Well to make a long story short for right now, the ties with my adoptive parents have been broken since that time, they refuse to have anything t do with me, do not write or call, do not answer calls or letters, etc. I have contact with my biological family whom I live near now. I am however, dealing with MANY emotions, want desparetly to have contact with my adoptive parents and need legal advice as to how I can research my adoption records and also the records of the court who made me an emancipated minor at the age of 17? I believe I was forced into becoming an emanicipated minor at 17 when I was not knowledgeable about what was really happening. My life since then has been a roller coaster, is a LONG story and I hope one day to be able to write a book. I'm sure it would sell! Anyway, any information that can be provided to me about how to reunite with my adoptive parents as well as any legal resources would be greatly appreciated. Are there any other adoptees who have gone through similar circumstances?
Thank you.
