SB-192 WOULD PROVIDE ADULT ADOPTEES BORN IN GEORGIA WITH UNCONDITIONAL ACCESS TO THEIR ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATES

SB-192, a bill which would provide adoptees born in Georgia with
unconditional access to their original birth certificates, was PASSED from the Senate Judiciary Committee last week with a "Do Pass" recommendation.

The bill will be considered next by the Senate Rules Committee, which determines whether the bill will reach the floor for vote by the full Senate. The most likely time when the Rules Committee will consider the bill is the week of March 24th. SINCE THERE IS PLENTY OF LEAD TIME FOR CONTACTING THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO SEND SNAIL MAIL, FAXES, AND MAKE PHONE CALLS IN ADDITION TO SENDING E-MAIL MESSAGES.

This year's Legislative Session in Georgia is winding down to a close quickly. Therefore, it is urgent that SB-192 be brought to the Senate floor for a full vote. Please, write, e-mail, FAX, and call the members of the Rules committee and ask them to support the right of adult adoptees to obtain their own birth records equal to the abilities of other citizens born in Georgia.

Adoption should have a foundation in truth and honesty, rather than secrets and shame.
