G & R is usually held in the first week you arrive. You will already have visited your child in the orphanage and have had some time to get to know him/her. In some circumstances you may be given the child a few days before the G & R.

G & R is an official handing over of the child. If you adopt from an orphanage the Director of the orphanage will be present to sign the official papers, local communist justice officials will also be present. It is a custom to give them all a small gift.

If you are adopting from a birth mother, members of the family may also be present.

At the G & R you will be handed the child's birth certificate, you need this to apply for the childs passport to leave Vietnam.

There is plenty of time for site seeing during the time you are waiting for the passport to be issued. We adopted in North Vietnam and visited Halon Bay and stayed on Cat Bah island, 3 day trip, total cost for coach, boat, hotel and all meals $16 per person.

When you know where you are adopting from research all the trips that are available.

Best of Luck
