Can I continue to work?

My husband and I (43 & 46, respectively) want to adopt a second child (have one biological son, 8; no luck conceiving a second time). We both work full-time and would continue to do so out of economic necessity (we're comfortable but not wealthy). I could take off three months or so with an adopted child, but not permanently. Will that be held against me? We are open to international adoption or a child up to age 5 or so. What do you think?
