Talking Approved/First Placement...same day

I got a call yesterday at 5pm about a sibling group of four. I asked "Have we been approved?" because I hadn't gotten an official call telling me we had been. I told her I couldn't take all four (not for our first experience) but we could take the older two, T a boy age 8 and S a girl age 5. She called back about half an hour later to say we had been approved, or we wouldn't be on her call list. She was waiting on a call from another foster parent who was considering taking the younger two, D a boy age 4 and A a boy age 14 months. I didn't hear anything after that, so I started putting my two boys to bed. The phone rang and they asked for directions to my house, they were bringing the older two. They got to my house at 11:30pm. Both children were sleeping in the van. The boy came in sat down on the couch and went right back to sleep. The girl stayed up for about a half hour. The workers stayed for about 15 mins., getting the children comfortable and telling us a little about them. They were very well behaved all day today. The boy played with my boys, said a cuss word twice (which my younger son told him we don't say words like that in this house) and put a thumb tack on my older sons chair. The girl stayed close to me most of the day. My dogs kept barking at her and she would tell them to "shut up." Pretty minor kid issues. They had a meeting at 5:30 today and it was decided that great-grandma and great-aunt would take them. They had been taken from mom because she was arrested for drug possession. They had been living with grandpa, but his live-in girlfriend was just arrested for drug possession. Over all it was a great first placement. We didn't have them long enough to get really attached, but we got to experience what being a foster parent is all about. Sitting in the meeting with all the family there was a little strange, but they seemed like nice people. They just have problems, like everyone else, only their problems affect the children.
