My husband (50 yrs - cardiac patient) and I (48 yrs.) have been trying for an international adoption. Three agencies have turned us down. They feel my husband's health and his list of medications in a BIG minus for us to adopt. Ourdoctor who wrote a letter stating that we were capable of taking on the task of raising a child. We had the first agency say they could help us and then when we got an agency to do the home study, (we live in NYS and the first agency is in IN) the case worker refused to do a home study due to my husband's list of meds. as well as the fact that they are concerned because we have been on disability for so long. Our doctor was never contacted by any agency and the last one we tried was in MO and they too rejected us. I called and talked to the man who sent us the letter and he was quite terse with me, scolding me that my husband is on heavy narcotics (he is on Vicodon) and he felt our doctor was "irresponsible" for stating that my husband was able to be a parent, both physically and emotionally. Our doctor stated that my husbsand's health is "good". I was once again told that that's impossible, with the list of medications my husband is on that he in no way is healthy! We have literally put our lives on hold for 10 years to help take care of my brother who passed on 1/1/2000 - it was a very long terminal illness. I feel very devastated and I wish someone could help us or guide us into the right direction. We have a deep faith and we need all the support and prayers that we can get. Thank you!
