I know I was told after any major "traumatic" event you have to wait a year to start the process for becoming a foster parent. I was divorced and had to wait a year before I could start (even though it was a very amicable divorce and I was already interested in fostering before the divorce). At least that's the way it is in Texas. I guess they want to make sure you have grieved the loss, whatever that may be, before you start the whole process.
