We changed our sons name at 7 months old. We did discuss it with his bparents, and they liked it. We chose a name that had part of both of their names in it, but was not as common as the birthname they had given him (we knew SEVEN other kids with the name). We would have changed it either way, but it was good for us to have their blessing. He will always know what the name was, and I completely expect that at some point in his life he will wish it still were. But, most kids go through a period of time where they wish their name were different. Thre have been lots of threads here on this topic and lots of different point of views....and they all seem valid. So, I think you should do what's right for you and your situation. I think it's great that you are concerned about birthmom's feelings and not just your desires, BTW.
