My nephew, who was NOT adopted, lives in an intact, happy, 2-parent home and has a stay-at-home mom. He is, admittedly, a rambunctious little tyke. Because he didn't go to day care or pre-K, he hadn't yet learned about sitting still for extended periods of times in a classroom when he started kindergarten. In his kindergarten class, he was the ONLY child who had NOT attended day care or pre-K. Of course, guess what "diagnosis" popped up within the first WEEK of school??
My sister agrees that it is a bunch of bunk. She pulled him out of the public school and enrolled him in a Montessori school, where individual style is used instead of a "Stepford" mentality. He has flourished and is considered one of the smartest kids in the class.
