That is very strange that she would come down on you so hard and also ask those kinds of questions in that sort of situation.
If the doctor suspected hearing loss due to neglect i would have him write up a report that can be put in the childs file, and given to the social worker. It is important information...and usually the social workers will be happy that you have such an interest in the child and are trying to get them the help they need.
My guess is maybe the mom is angry with you for some reason and has expressed her concerns with the social worker that you have negative feeling against her...and my be expressing that in front of the her child. Maybe that is why she acted the way she did when you told her about your concerns.
If you have problems with the social worker you can always go to her supervisior and let her know what the problem is.
Also, talk to the childs attorney personally and let them know your conerns. Make sure you make it to court so you can testify about what your concerns are...and having proof from the doctor/dentist will be important as well.
