there are some good thoughts here. I just want to ask about one thing you said, that your kids are the only AA in the school. for your kids mental health, is it possible for you to find a school that is more diverse? I think the problem may be beyond the use of one word and your kids will need to see themselves reflected in a positive way in school (which is where kids spend most of their waking day). If it's an issue of the neighborhood or community that is less diverse, it may be time to consider a new community.
Just a few thoughts from a person who's been in your kids' shoes.
