It would probably depend on the state you are in as far as what age you could adopt up to. Here in Washington (through the foster care system) they want you to be 21 years older than the child (I believe). As 26 year old's, it is possible you could end up in a situation where a teen is more likely to make accusations, or where bounderies may be unclear to a teen, or where you simply won't have any "parent authority" over a teen since there isn't much of an age difference. That of course isn't always the case, just possibilities that were mentioned in the lisencing class to us.
