donna,
Hi! I have been searching on behalf of my husband for his b family. His adoption was handled through CHS in Florida. My experience with them has been fair, it is not that it is bad, it is they are overworked and understaffed in the adoption archive unit. In our case we are supposedly being treated as an medical "emergency" case. That was approved to be handled that way the end of Sept 04 , here we are in Jan 05 ; I would hate to think what would have happend if our emergency was life or death.
Anyway , i have noticed my husband's case worker while very sweet,.... is very very very slow. She only works two days a week and is a supervisor! She had the wrong name for the birth mother(the b f was able to give her the right name ,she still can't find her), has contacted the b father twice, he without hesitation admitted paternity, he has agreed to contact. She states she mailed b f needed legal paper work on dec 22nd but on Jan 21st when she called him a second time bf stated he had not received the paper work..She put the blame on the USPS? My guess is she is human , it was the holidays, she was getting ready to leave for two weeks off, has a sick family member and forgot to the mail the paper work on Dec 22nd. The other alternative is the bf received the paper work, really does not want contact and threw the paper work out;but if that was the case why not just say NO CONTACT on the phone, if not during the first conversation, then the second one?
We have learned a lot of things (if they are the truth)we did not know about both b parents from CHS that we did not before. My husband who was raised an only child now knows he has at least two half brothers who are 10 and 12 years younger ( father's chidren).
Keep in mind we are paying for these services thus far $600.00. If in the end my husband has contact with his b father then it will be well invested money.... the PI company I have a bid from wanted $3500.00 for the same service, though I think they may have been faster! I hope that sheds some light on CHS for you, good luck with your serach........
My Best,
Shade
