Shymkent food
We adopted our daughter from Shymkent. While we brought peanut butter, muffin bars, and a couple of small comfort foods, we found the Shymkent grocery store to have some surprising things!
Cookies imported from Germany...great comfort food. Variety of candy bars, chips, etc. The bakery section was fantastic, with a lot of pastries. No need to bring soup or noodles, we found them there and prepared them at our apartment. There is a brand of soup mix called California, which is surprisingly very good!
Also, as far as water goes, we tasted a lot bottled water before we settled on a nice, cheap brand. Tassay is available in Shymkent, although I did not see it in Almaty.
