Our soon-to-be-born son will be born in CO, we live in NM, but also work in CO. We live just 4 miles across the border, but have been told by everyone involved "tough luck". We can drive all the way back to about 18 miles from home where a coworker is letting us stay in a studio apt til we get the clearance.
The apt is between work and home, so DH will come by the apt for dinner and a couple of hours of "baby time" and then go home for the night to take care of our furbabies and get a good night sleep for as long as possible. Baby & I will stay at the apt.
In CO, we will be signing an "at risk" acknowledgement because the birth parents will have to either go before a judge to relinquish (which could take anywhere between 3 weeks and 3 months) or possibly to an expedited relinquishment which could take about 10 days. We've been told that ICPC could take up to 3 weeks...and our first Christmas as a family is coming up!
