We adopted our first daughter out of state and we ended up spending about 3 weeks in PA. It should have not taken that long, but the lawyer in PA was very insufficient and very money hungry, so we ended up spending more time away from our home. I will say it was hard to be away from our family, but it was nice being able to get to know our daughter's mother better and spending time with her and she was able to spend alot of time with her daughter she was placing with us. So, I have to say, God knew what he was doing and he brought us all together even more as a family, for we have a new and extended family as well as a beautiful daughter and we got to spend countless days with them and laugh with them and really get to know them more personally.
I am sure every state is different and it is something your lawyer should be able to answer for you. Don't look at it as a bad thing IF you are away from home, look at it in a postive way for you are getting to know your child's family and they are able to spend alot of time with you and with the child and to me, that is special and will mean alot to my daughter and to her mother.
