Perhaps I should add, my experience from my own family has been that on two occasions where a child was born illegitimately the birth can be found in the indexes twice once under mother's name and once under the father's name but both with the same entry and volume number.
Another two of mine that were illegitimate were listed only under the father's name but showing the correct mother's maiden name as if they hade been married even though they were not.
All of the others, my mother had eleven without ever marrying, were listed just in her name.
What I am trying to say here is that you should not make any presumptions about how they will be listed in the index to the birth register. You will probably need to look under both names. I hope she registered them as Batt it will make things a lot easier for you.
