Hello again. Here is another update on the NYS Tax Credit.
I heard from Assemblyman Hookers office today. (He is sponsoring the bill) It should be coming up for vote in 2005 and he urged us to write our Assemblymen to urge them to vote
YES.
You can find out who your local Assemblyman is by going to the website:

Here is a draft of the letter I am sending. Feel free to use it, change it or whatever.
As New York State residents and future adoptive parents, we urge you to review and pass bill A05345 when it comes up for vote in 2005. As you may know, adoption costs can range from $5-25,000. Unfortunately, many families, such as ours have already spent thousands of dollars trying to conceive before ever considering adoption. When we finally decide to start a family through adoption, the biggest obstacle becomes how to pay for it. Although the federal tax credit does provide some financial assistance, it does not always cover everything. I understand many states have additional tax credits for adoption (and not just for special needs), but sadly, New York does not.
This bill I write about is sponsored by Assemblyman Daniel Hooker. It will establish the New York state adoption care credit to allow a one-time five-thousand dollar credit against personal income tax to those taxpayers who adopt a child. It is once again under consideration in the Ways and Means Commission and I am urging you to not allow it to die again without further deliberation.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
