Check out the ABRW website..there is a section on foster breastfeeding...I agree with Lisa..it depends on your state...alot of folks are being very active lately to change the laws and make foster breastfeeding possible..its the whole exchange of body fluids thing that seems to be an issue if the child is not legally yours yet..obviously you are already tested for communicable diseases with adoption...but I would also not nurse a foster baby unless I had negative results for the baby also.. there are certainly mixed reports about disease transmission in breast milk..some say it doesnt happen, some say it can..I think it is a great idea, esp if the baby has had multiple caregivers and it would certainly help with the bonding and health status of the baby!
