DH and I just adopted a beautiful, healthy baby boy last month. We are in Utah. My DH is about to lose his job (lay-offs), along with his health insurance. We could do COBRA, but it's SO EXPENSIVE!! I called around today to see how much it would cost us to get a family policy set up on our own, and NONE of the companies will take us. We are PERFECTLY HEALTHY, but they refuse to write our policy because we have to answer "yes" to the question "Do you intend to adopt a child in the next five years?" They won't even give us a plan with huge rates ... they just flat out refuse us on the spot because they don't want to have to pay the Utah State-mandated $3,250.00 adoption indemnity benefit.
What do all you Utah adoptive parents do for health insurance coverage?? They will write a separate policy for baby alone, but then DH and I wouldn't have health insurance!!
Help please!
Amy
