Start with an attorney or agency

My husband and I adopted our son 15 months ago. This was a relative adoption. Start by obtaining an adoption lawyer or agency. You will probably need to go through all the steps as a traditional adoption. There will be a homestudy, counselling session, social worker visits, as well as medical exams and we had fire marshall and sw home inspections. Your agency or lawyer will guide you through the whole process. This will take about 6 weeks to complete everything barring any complications or problems. Then it is just a waiting game till the child arrives.
One of the few things different from a traditional adoption is, you have already been selected by a birthmom and you don't have the waiting to be selected or advertising situation.
