Any reputable attorney will give you a retainer letter stating what their billed rate is, and what the minimum increment for billing is - usually it's 15 minutes. They'll also detail what the costs are for long distance calls, copying, mail, FedEx and court filing fees.

Most good adoption attorneys also give you 'estimates' of what it will cost to finalize, and these estimates are usually broken down.
