hi,

the waiting stinks, doesn't it? We adopted using our agency in CA and a facilitator to speed up the process. Our agency here said it would take 6months to a year to place AA in our home (both AA parents). Our facilitator sped up the process by networking all over the US. The problem w/our agency is that they did not search nationwide, but waited to hear of things or have women contact them directly. We chose not to wait and pay the extra money ($ 4800) to have a placement take place quickly. It worked for us: we adopted our daughter 5 weeks after our homestudy was completed. I think there are a number of things that can slow things down: agency inaction, restrictions on aparents part (gender, age, health, race), bmoms (they decide what they like and it can really have nothing to do with you, just whatever appeals to them), and assorted other things. In addition, after they show your profile to bmoms, bmoms can take their time deciding. Our facilitator only called after we had been chosen by a bmom, so we had no updates in those 4 weeks (excruciating, so I sympathize!). Anyway, you might want to contact your social worker and discuss what's happening-I agree with martha, be proactive!

good luck,

LisaCA
