We've taken foster kids out of state before. We just have to tell the caseworker about a week before and he/she will give us a paper, signed by a judge and notarized that we have to keep with us at all times. I was told it's mostly in case the child needs medical attention. We did have to have a departure and return date, as well as the address and phone number of the place we were going.
