Our son's biomom was actually the one who suggested I try breastfeeding long before I was even aware that it was possible.. (She had breastfed her other children and is a big proponent for it.) I looked into it, but I just didn't think it was the right choice for us.
To be honest, I just didn't feel "right" about it.... mainly because I was afraid of what people would say when I told them. He gained plent of weight anyway, and is wonderfully active and healthy despite being *gasp* formula fed. Haha.

Looking back, I rather wish I would have looked into it further. I let shyness and uncertainty keep me from sharing a very beautiful and bonding experience with my son. (though, he seems to have adjusted fine without it.... besides for a rather humorous preoccupation with the front of women's shirts.)

If you think it's right for you I would talk to your local branch of the LeLecheLegue. But it is a good idea to start building a milk supply as soon as possible.
