We have adopted seven times........the longest wait was almost 18 months for our youngest baby (now almost 14 months old).
Most of the reason for our long wait was because we had put a gender stipulation on any placement. We had never stipulated gender....but we asked for a girl this time. We actually turned down some CC situations, because we only wanted AA or bi-racial situations, and certainly we 'passed' on situations that were already known to be 'boys'.
About four months before we were given this child.....we decided we could stipulate gender all we wanted and keep waiting, or have another baby! We said we would accept either gender. In the end........the baby that came to us was a girl after all!!!!!
I post this, because I think sometimes we do put criteria in our requests that may mean a much longer wait time. However, everyone is different and if such criteria is quite important, then a couple is wise to continue to wait.
Best of luck. I think the wait is the worst part of all!!!!!
Sincerely,
Linny
